Melancholya is a self-taught artist photographer extremely curious and passionate about a multitude of things: classical painting such as still life and genre scene but also cooking, creating sets, illustration, needlework or even writing are all practices that she combines to give life to original creations.
Specialized in the field of culinary photography, since 2017 she has created a series of images around cooking recipes that she prepares, stages and photographs. The project "La Faim Est Proche" then comes to life and then ensues a whole fictional universe to which she gives life through gourmet photographs, portraits and genre scenes.
This vast photographic project, inspired by the aesthetics and the light of classical painters such as Vermeer, Caravaggio or Rembrandt, invites you to sit down at the old and melancholy table of Hannah-Belle, the young cook of the "Manoir aux golden woods" who makes, day after day, from season to season, tasty little dishes for the young couple she serves.
With this project, Melancholya is looking for an ancient, dark and melancholic aesthetic, in chiaroscuro but where color predominates. She thus seeks to create a fictional universe from scratch in order to take her viewer on a journey to another world, another era where Gothic, rural and good living coexist. To achieve this, she creates her own sets, models and costumes and practices photomontage to create unique works.
Melancholya lives and works in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques near Oloron-Sainte-Marie. She has exhibited her photographic work many times and in 2022 won first prize in the young talent competition at the "La Quinzaine de l'image" photo festival in Maubourguet.
