In this photograph, the artist wanted to capture the fresh and bold traditional colours which emblazon the traditional fishing boats of the island of Malta, as well as the lines and curves which make up the boats and which are excellent subjects for modern abstract images.
The boats come in two different versions - a smaller, passenger carrying version called the "Dghajsa", and the larger fishing vessel called the "Luzzu".
The eyes, which are found on each front part of the boats, are said to come down from Phoenician times when sailors used to paint the same large eyes on their ships; Egyptian sailors treated their ships with the same artwork.
The image is part of a series of images which all take a closer look at the boats of Malta.
