Les instants tannés de Marthe Kalifa sont des clins d’œil à l’impossible répétition de la vie. Ses sujets multiples (limaces, coquelicots, bâtiments, chantier, cochons, bancs, maquereaux, jambes) nous offrent une sensation poétique née de la surimpression et de la mise en scène des objets de sa fascination. On perd ses repères, on ne sait plus ce qui est photo ou peinture, on se laisse capter par l’humour de ce regard décalé sur la réalité.
I live, work in Montpellier and exhibit for almost 20 years. Trained in a sculpture, drawing and plastic arts workshop, and more recently stained glass, I explore painting, mixed techniques, engraving, multi-material sculpture as I wish.
Somewhere in the world or on daily paths it happens that my eyes see and nothing is the same.
A kind of immediate waking dream where smells are imprinted, where the movements the colors stand out from reality and join a space of inner fallow.
Today, after having built my house in straw earth, I find the work of the earth associated or not with various materials.
“Daily life, when it is scrutinized with such attention, conceals treasures.
The spectator misunderstands the meaning or the form of these multiplied but never identical figures. He thinks he refuses to do so in good faith; and suddenly everything is revealed. Beauty wins”.
