This is the 3rd work I created during the Pandemic, when the house was cleared, builders had finished and I returned to doing my own art after having spent most of my life teaching others in various modalities of creative activities. (June 2020)
This is my 3rd work and the first depicting human figures.

The Quantum world deals with the fundamental nature of things at their smallest scale, such as atomic and subatomic particles. (I have been practicing Dr J. Dispenza’s methodology of meditation). According to him, governing the Quantum world is an unseen constant; a single field of information called the unified field.

Here, two people are connected to this unified field through energy waves of frequency and consciousness at a heart-level. They attracted this connection through meditation practices and it works a bit like a key fitting into a lock experience. It just clicks at a heart or feeling level. They have moved in their experience, at least partially, beyond space and time in what is termed an “elevated emotional state of being.” They are connected to the void, which is the blackness surrounding them in the picture and their connection is symbolized by the Divine Rose where the heart “strings” are plugged into. (They live on different continents with different time zones). The upright depictions of the persons are their meditative parts of beingness. It is a strong directly experienced feeling state and unmistakable.

The problem I posed myself is how to depict such a situation in two-dimensional reality (paper) and so it is naïve and has an element of enumeration, with symbols and their reclining positions pointing to the more enduring aspects of their soul-nature.
The overall effect has a meditative, timeless, sense of stillness.

I was born and raised in The Netherlands soon after world-war two by two different families as my mother died when I was five years old. I arrived in Cape Town, alone, at the age of 17 in the middle of the sixties, straight out of High School. I am still living here!

Most of my life I have taught children at both preprimary and preparatory level, which included a lot of arts and crafts. I developed creative moving toys with woodwork equipment and machinery with adults and disadvantaged youth over the years, much of it painted and with simple mechanical movements. I spent a year at Emerson College, (Sussex, U.K.) in 1974 learning woodwork and doing watercolor painting amongst other things.

I am, since 1996, teaching yoga in my own home-studio. In 2013 I started “carte-blanche” a design business using local African fabrics with the objective of creating work for local seamstresses and artisans. This came to an end with the Pandemic in early 2020.

After a lifetime of teaching others arts and crafts the Pandemic afforded me the opportunity to clear my “carte-blanche” studio and get back to my own artistic endeavours. I started with pencils (as I had designed bright blank cards and note-books in colourful pencil designs for “carte-blanche)”. It was a natural extension and new as I had done wood carving in the past.

In 2016 I wrote and illustrated my own children’s story: “The little Lemon Tree that stood.”
