Symbolism, and the alchemy of the human spirit.
Metamorphosis series explores the transformative nature of the human experience through symbolic, often surreal, figurative forms. Blending elements of anatomy, flora, and sacred iconography, I approach the body not as a vessel, but as a landscape that carries memory, healing, and inner myth.
Using natural, handmade watercolors, recycled cotton paper, and organic and re-purposed materials, I allow the medium itself to echo the themes of impermanence, regeneration, and return to source. Each piece is a poetical visual metaphor of remembering what has been buried or broken or on how we might re-root through pain into something beautiful and new. Drawing inspiration from mystic surrealists and contemporary visionaries, I work at the intersection of symbolic narrative and quiet rituals of self exploration and healing.

'Silent Soul Scapes' is an ongoing series of oil and watercolor paintings depicting ethereal spaces evoking calm and contemplation. Each painting holds a subtle hint of mystery or symbolism, inviting viewers to explore deeper meanings beneath the surface.
The creative process behind 'Silent Soul Scapes' is a meditative journey. While finding an escape and comfort in the painting process I aim to convey the feeling of peace and calmness in my artworks so that the viewers can share the same experience or be inspired to go on the same self-exploration journey and find their own safe and tranquil place.

Marija Stefanovic is an Amsterdam-based artist focused on contemplative and symbolic painting with eco-friendly materials.
Her meditative approach to the painting process results in visualizing imaginary ethereal spaces, evoking calmness, and contemplation. Each painting holds a subtle hint of mystery or symbolism, inviting viewers to explore deeper meanings beneath the surface.

I'm happy to announce that I’ll be participating in a group exhibition at Art & More, a vibrant pop-up gallery in Deinze, Belgium, from 1 July to 1 August.
The exhibition brings together the work of 14 regional visual artists, showcasing an exciting mix of painting, sculpture, and installations. Alongside the visual art, the gallery also features a curated selection of unique handmade artisan products.
I'll be exhibiting several new paintings from my Metamorphosis series, including 'Alba' and 'Oniricus', as well as the brand new ones I still haven't shared online, so I'm very excited to see the public experience them in person.
The entrance is free and everyone is invited!
