The painting “Horizon House” imagines a place where the sun is always centered at the horizon line; thus, creating perpetual sunrise and sunset. As everchanging clouds, weather systems, and time itself orchestrate to create a kaleidoscope of awe-inspiring beauty, it is the sun’s light that dances, as it flickers between the darkness of dusk and the light of dawn. At the “Horizon House”, profound awakening never ends. Perpetual curiosity leads to deepening learning. And the cherished “beginner’s mind” of the sage is nurtured through the environment that celebrates new understanding as much as it celebrates expert wisdom. Maria Lorena Lehman is a contemporary American artist. She is focused on links between architectural design, scientific discovery, emerging technology, and human potential as explored through her research-driven studio practice. Her work attracts an international audience as it bridges between architectural application and universal interpretation to unlock what environments can do to benefit people in innovative ways. 

Lehman holds the degrees of Master in Design with Distinction from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in the United States, and a Bachelor of Architecture, Cum Laude, from Virginia Tech in the United States. Lehman is recipient of the Harvard University Digital Design Prize for the most creative use of digital media in relation to the design professions.

Maria Lorena Lehman is internationally published and in numerous periodicals, including The Architect's Journal, Architect Magazine, Wired, Forbes, and Vogue. Currently, her studio work looks for new ways environments can awaken individual and collective enlightenment by innovating experience, which she explores deeply through her artistic and design processes. Maria Lorena Lehman has a vision for how interdisciplinary findings between architecture, science, philosophy, and emerging technology can unlock more nurturing environmental futures that she envisions as new architectural possibilities through her artworks and designs that inspire, amaze, and delight in ways not experienced before.
