Lovis Corinth was a German artist and writer who lived from July 21, 1858, to July 17, 1925. His mature work as a painter and printmaker was a mix of impressionism and expressionism.
Corinth went to school in Paris and Munich, joined the Berlin Secession group, and later took over as the group's president from Max Liebermann. The style of his early work was naturalistic. Corinth was against the expressionist movement at first, but after he had a stroke in 1911, his style became looser and more expressionist. His use of color got brighter, and he made portraits and landscapes with a lot of life and power. Corinth was also about naked people and scenes from the Bible.
