The pose is relaxed and contemplative. The solidity of the figure adds weight to its presence but is more approachable than that of a more ethereal form. It is intentionally androgynous to move past the aspect of gender to engage the thought of its pose and to enhance the freedom of touching the piece. There's something of the familiar and comforting nature to the piece which makes you want to rub its belly or its feet bringing a smile. The piece is carved in one block, the base of the figure being a part of the sculpture just as much as the figure itself. It helps focus attention on the form but its contrasting surfaces of texture are a good balance, its slender formality against the fuller figure.
