Laurent Messager is a contemporary French artist. He grew up in a world where the importance of images from advertising, television and cinema were growing exponentially. To this popular culture was added classical culture and the discovery of the great masters of painting and sculpture, creating a pool of influences.

Messager was intrigued very early on by the graph and street art emerging in the 80s, and also influenced by the free figuration of Combas and Di Rossa, so he integrated in his painting a low graphic mode of letters and words that permeates and reinforces the meaning and evocative force of images.

Recently he developed a sculpture process combining direct stone carving and cement-based modeling on a metal supporting structure allowing to shape slender silhouettes in torsion in movement and sometimes integrating a coloring in the mass or a polychromy based on metallic pigments.

Laurent Messager was born in 1966, in France, where he graduated from the Beaux Arts de Montpellier.
