Yu LanYing is a leading female figure in Chinese contemporary ink painting. She employs the use of Chinese ink and mixed media on rice paper to create entirely original work. Her paintings reflect the accomplishments of a seasoned master indebted to the riches of traditional Chinese painting and experimentation with western abstract expressionism. She inherited the former as a child, when she began working at the age of seven under the tutelage of Huang JunBi and Gao YiHong among other masters of Chinese painting in Taiwan. After thirty years of study and work in the United States, Yu internalized the latter. The result has been a body of work whose abstraction evolves with the continuum of her experiences of Chinese and American culture.

Yu has exhibited extensively in the United States, China and Taiwan. She is best known for her works that explore her love for the ocean. The underwater landscapes inspire Yu to extend her soul onto paper with a combination of ink, color and texture, allowing the viewer into the private space of her spiritual journey.

Lanying Yu is a contemporary Chinese painter. A leading female figure in Chinese contemporary ink painting, Yu LanYing's work seamlessly merges traditional Chinese painting techniques with elements of western abstract expressionism, resulting in a body of work that is both deeply rooted in tradition and boldly innovative.

Born and raised in Taiwan, Yu's artistic journey began at the tender age of seven under the guidance of esteemed masters such as Huang JunBi and Gao YiHong. Immersed in the rich tradition of Chinese painting from a young age, Yu honed her skills and developed a profound appreciation for the art form's intricate techniques and philosophical underpinnings.

After thirty years of dedicated study and practice, Yu embarked on a new chapter in her artistic evolution, relocating to the United States. It was here that she encountered the vibrant landscape of American culture and the expressive freedom of western abstract art. Drawing inspiration from her experiences in both China and America, Yu seamlessly integrated these diverse influences into her artistic repertoire, resulting in a unique fusion of styles that speaks to the interconnectedness of cultures and artistic traditions.

Throughout her illustrious career, Yu has exhibited her work extensively across the United States, China, and Taiwan, garnering widespread acclaim for her evocative compositions and masterful use of ink and mixed media. While she explores a variety of themes and subjects in her art, Yu is perhaps best known for her captivating depictions of the ocean. Inspired by the vastness and mystery of underwater landscapes, Yu's paintings offer viewers a glimpse into the depths of her spiritual journey, inviting them to share in her profound connection to the natural world.
