LANA is a French artist, she lives and works in Colmar.

Graduated with a double master's degree in criminal and social law, she began a career in the legal profession in Rennes. Diagnosed with Ruiter-Pompen-Wyers syndrome, also called Fabry's disease, prohibiting her from pleadings, she then devoted herself fully to painting, a discipline she had practiced since childhood. In 2020, she begins a new professional career as an independent artist.

Lana chooses art as an outlet. It allows him to ignore his ills by expressing them on the canvas support. Guided by her emotions, her pain and her nocturnal visions, her painting allows her to construct the most accurate representation possible, giving voice to the undeciphered, the unexpressed.

The unconscious plays a major role in his artistic practice. True correspondence between the dreamlike process and the work of the canvas, it acts as a factor of self-discovery, revealed by the aesthetic relationship and which she uses to apprehend life and her career as an artist.

Cerebral and tortured, his sometimes violent works are imbued with complexity and also evoke a representation of force, manifested by a furious urge to paint. Her gestures, nervous and jerky, assert themselves through different techniques on strong colored contrasts, which she outlines in black like a signature. Not primarily equated with suffering, her illness also pushes her to explore her psyche in depth to develop her own philosophy. It is from this new pictorial register that she finds the strength to reclaim her body and her freedom.

WORDS FROM THE ARTIST

"I have always seen painting as a necessity, a need for expression. It imposed itself before words to help me represent what I was going through through the physical and mental trials of the disease, my medical journey, in this real metamorphosis of my being and my body.

I visualize all these transformations, and various inspirations help me to metaphorize them. The literary and aesthetic universes of the steampunk and cyberpunk genre are the most recent to represent my present. The machinery of these universes refers to my body connected to medical devices for infusion treatments or to permanent subcutaneous implantations. On the other hand, the “titans” are a representation of my mind and its inner struggles. These series tell a story that is mine. "
