I am particularly fond of elephants! This is an original 20" x 14" or 51 x 36 cm, watercolor painting of a baby elephant in a room decorated with animal prints and chinoiserie.

There are 2 books on the leopard printed table entitled, "Love, Life, And Elephants", and another entitled, "An African Love Story" these names come from the biography of Daphne Sheldrick. She founded Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an organization in Botswana that rescues, rehabilitates and releases orphaned elephants and other African wildlife.

I admire the work they do and am so happy to have completed this painting which features one of their baby female elephants named Losoito who was rescued in April, 2023 from the Losoito region of Tsavo National Park. Losoito's keepers describe her as being delightfully short and stout, with a determined little run that you can spot from a mile away! You can visit Shieldrick Trust online to view the story of Losoito.

This painting comes with a certificate of authenticity. It has been painted with Rembrandt professional watercolors and De Atramentis Archival ink on Arches, French made all cotton 300gsm watercolor paper.

Kristen Olson Stone grew up in a Maryland suburb of Washington, D.C. with a sincere appreciation for art and music. The daughter of two classical musicians, she spent time learning to play piano, violin, viola, and classical guitar. Although she loved music, her real passion has always been that of drawing and painting.

Inspired by her grandmother, also a painter, she attended art school at The University of Maryland and The California Art Institute in Los Angeles.  Classically trained, she enjoyed painting people and portraits but her love of nature and wildlife steered her towards a more painterly style of impressionism.

Kristen is an interdisciplinary artist working in  oil and watercolor.  Her joyful, colorful paintings are very popular with collectors!  Her style of oil painting features luxurious, thick strokes of oil paint which give added interest to the artwork.  When viewed from a close distance, these oil paintings appear to be a textured mosaic of beautiful strokes of color, like tiny abstract paintings within the larger work. When viewed from a further distance, the lines, colors and shapes come together to magically reveal a particular subject.

I enjoy working with clients to produce custom paintings. Message me with your request and I'll send you a quote.

My paintings are lovingly collected worldwide, they hang in corporate and private collections including ASB Bank, Bank Of Hawaii, The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel, The collection of President and Michelle Obama and The New Zealand Parliament.
