The Sénoufo straddle three countries Ivory Coast, Mali and Burkina Faso, more than a million and a half members of the Sénoufo tribe live mainly from the fruits of agriculture and hunting. They live in villages governed by a council of elders, who are in turn led by a chief elected from among them. Tribal cohesion is reinforced by the rituals of Poro society which initiate and educate men from the age of seven. Senoufo theology is based on Koulotiolo, a powerful god, and Katieleo, a mother goddess, who through the rituals of the Poro society, regenerates the world.
