To create this work I created a metal core, covered with cardboard and then added plaster. Of classical Hellenistic inspiration, this contemporary body appears as a battlefield, as the female body too often is nowadays.
Joshua Stazio, a contemporary Italian sculptor, discovered his passion for art at an early age, experimenting with mediums such as charcoal, sanguine, and watercolor. Following his artistic inclinations, he pursued education at an art high school and carpentry school, laying the groundwork for a multifaceted creative journey.
Venturing into the Turin underground scene and traversing Europe, Joshua opened several workshops, collaborating with friends and colleagues while actively participating in various exhibitions. His artistic trajectory took a pivotal turn when he found a home at the Cavallerizza in Turin—a diverse space that fostered creative freedom. In this vibrant environment, Joshua honed his skills and embraced the opportunity to express himself freely.
During his time at the Cavallerizza, Joshua engaged in numerous collective exhibitions, showcasing his versatility as a multi-purpose artist. Beyond sculpting, he extended his expertise to contribute to the preparation of exhibition spaces, further solidifying his role in the artistic community.
Joshua Stazio's work and artistic exploration are characterized by a commitment to simplicity in materials. He sees the potential to breathe new life and value into these materials, utilizing them as a means to address themes close to his heart. One such theme is the existential constraint of modern man, a consequence of the capitalist society in which we find ourselves entwined.
His sculptures, infused with a deep sense of purpose and social commentary, reflect a keen awareness of the challenges faced by individuals in contemporary society. Through his art, Joshua endeavors to shed light on the complexities of the human experience, using his creative prowess to offer insight and provoke contemplation.
