Kwon Ji-an’s Humming Letter #83 is a profound exploration of texture, movement, and sensory perception. A part of her celebrated Humming Letter series, this large-scale work embodies the artist’s signature approach—where painting transcends the visual realm to evoke the fluidity of sound and emotion.
The composition of Humming Letter #83 is immersive, inviting viewers into a dynamic interplay of blues, greens, and delicate accents of yellow and soft pink. Kwon's distinctive technique—applying paint directly with her hands—imbues the canvas with an organic vitality, where each gesture captures an unfiltered connection between the artist and her medium. The richly layered textures create depth, offering a sense of movement akin to a tranquil yet shifting natural landscape, reminiscent of an underwater garden or a sun-dappled forest.
At the lower right corner, a subtle line of delicate script-like markings adds an element of mystery, hinting at Kwon’s ongoing dialogue between music, memory, and visual form.
Kwon Ji-an’s Humming Letter series has become one of her most recognized and compelling artistic endeavors, praised for its ability to translate sound into visual poetry. Humming Letter #83 is an exceptional example of this, capturing a deeply meditative and expressive moment on canvas.
Her work is increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate art that merges emotion with form. The large format of this piece makes it a striking centerpiece, commanding attention while offering a contemplative experience to the viewer. Its scale allows for an intensified engagement with its textural intricacies and evolving color harmonies.
This mixed-media painting is in excellent condition, preserved with archival-quality materials to ensure the integrity of its textures and color vibrancy. The thick application of paint creates a sculptural surface, with light interacting uniquely at every angle. It is a piece that must be experienced in person to fully appreciate its complexity, as its depth and movement shift with changing perspectives.
Kwon Ji-an, widely known for her transition from music to contemporary art, has built a distinctive artistic identity where music and painting intertwine. Her Humming Letter series is deeply personal, reflecting her exploration of auditory experiences through abstract visual language. Since her first solo exhibition in 2012, she has continued to evolve, earning recognition both in Korea and internationally. This series, in particular, exemplifies her ongoing artistic dialogue with the themes of existence, sensation, and transformation.
This work offers a unique opportunity to acquire a significant piece from Kwon Ji-an’s artistic evolution. Its depth, texture, and emotive power make it a compelling addition to any collection, inviting viewers into a visual and sensory experience unlike any other.
