The "affective' borrowing of the name - Arnold GUERLINCK - from a very dear friend of his father, whom he had known in STO in Germany during the last war, enabled JeanClaude MAAS, not to face any duality, but to be able to respond in all serenity to two currents of inspiration deeply rooted in his pictorial imagination.
SOURCES:
Born on March 11, 1946, the artist was raised by his grandfather, a photographer, and his grandmother, holding a flea market in the Montpamasse district. It is in this environment conducive to the development of artistic aspirations, that Jean-Claude began very young, at the age of 13, a global apprenticeship (shooting and laboratory) of photography which will allow him to penetrate very diverse: fashion, industry, entertainment and to produce reports as well as portraits.
Also a musician (guitar and synthesizer), at the age of 21 he turned to selling records, an activity he carried out for 13 years at the SAINT OUEN Flea Market.
Then his family past caught up with him and, having become a second-hand dealer like his grandmother, he was very quickly led to take an interest in painting and to collaborate with painters.
And this is how this art literally absorbed his life...
THE DOUBLE INSPIRATION:
• CUBISM:
In love with this pictorial current, whose works, especially from the first half of the 20th century, proved to be too expensive to allow him to buy them, Jean-Claude MAAS began to paint to satisfy this passion. And, to his great surprise, a buyer immediately presented himself for his first work! It is then under the name of Arnold GUERLINCK that this cubist inspiration will continue to flourish.
• REALISM:
His early years, immersed in the Paris of Montpamasse and its artistic bohemianism, permanently attached him to the capital. 1! has a visceral need for this Parisian life and retains a deep nostalgia for scenes that are rare today in an increasingly sanitized Paris...
An "impressionist" look, but through a style that is unique to him, allowed him to restore, under the signature of Jean-Claude MAAS, these visions captured in cafes, streets,... -
He has participated in numerous exhibitions and sold works, both in France and abroad (USA, Germany, Italy, Holland, Belgium, etc.).
