The painting captures a moment of absolute intensity – a psychological duel encapsulated in the gaze of a chess player who locks eyes with the viewer, daring them to predict his next move. It's an incredible piece of art that will have you hooked! Seated in an opulent, softly lit room, the man wears a sleek, tailored suit that makes him look powerful and authoritative. One hand confidently rests on the polished chessboard, a single finger pointing towards his next brilliant move! The other hand hovers above, poised to make the decisive play that could end the game in a spectacular checkmate! His eyes are piercing, calculated, and unrelenting – a portrait of utter dominance and focus! The tension in his posture and expression is electric, pulling the viewer into the high-stakes mental battlefield.
The room is a picture of refinement and status, a space where intellect and privilege converge. On the wall behind the chess player hangs a smaller painting, which adds a fascinating extra dimension to the scene. It shows a striking detail of a girl who watches this intense exchange unfold from her two-dimensional world. Her gaze is calm, thoughtful, and almost otherworldly, as though she's privy to secrets about this confrontation that remain just out of reach. Is she a mere observer, or does her presence suggest a deeper layer of meaning within the scene? This painting is a visual metaphor for life's complexities – strategy, power, and the constant interplay of vulnerability and control. It invites the viewer into the realm of decision-making, where every move carries weight, and the unseen observer reminds us of the stories beyond our awareness. It is a confrontation not only with the player but with the self – and it's a thrilling one!

From his interests in both classical art and modern / contemporary art, Belgian artist Jan Keteleer (JanKé) works with different styles. Ancient art is one of his interests, but you can also find examples of his work in pop art and impressionism. If you browse through Jan Keteleer's portfolio, you will find beautiful nature scenes, painterly images of animals or pop art-based nudes.

After years of working in commercial photography, he turned his interest to artistic black and white photography. Projects such as Speechless, Silent Dialogues and Roots with Taboo brought him fame. He was inspired by the problems of the multicultural society in Belgium, the coexistence of different national and ethnic groups, the issue of the language barrier and the lack of dialogue between the "old" (the native population) and the "new" Belgians (the immigrants).

Today he has devoted himself entirely to digital painting. Using classical techniques such as acrylic and pastel, he creates individual elements that are then digitally brought together and finished.

JanKé attaches great importance to the social significance of his works and integrates them into the context of public space (stations, airports and public transport), prompting the viewer to react and reflect. His projects have received the support of the organization Sprakeloos, which aims to use art to provoke discussion on social issues.

He has had numerous exhibitions in Belgium (in Antwerp, Bruges, Lier, Leuven and Ghent), in the U.S. (in Dallas and San Francisco) and in Poland (in Krakow).
