Contrary to the way traditional portraits are made, I am not trying here to draw a flattering image of the subject. What I mean to highlight is the need for the body to be rid of its artifices. This is the only manner for the true and deep nature of human beings to be revealed with their shortcomings and inner doubts.
In order to convey this impression to the viewer, I deliberately drew strong, deformed and erratic-looking features. Consequently, this painting should be viewed as an evidence.
Divine is half an icon, half a gargoyle.
