En la obra íntegro la realidad exterior del café integrada con la realidad interna. Los reflejos de edificios y árboles del exterior juegan con la mesa y sillas del interior.
Es un café inaugurado a principios del siglo XX y restaurado con mimo. En él se celebraban tertulias de escritores, artistas e intelectuales de la época. Un café de cultura y lujo en Madrid.

Su primera exposición individual de pintura la realiza en 1979, en la que su obra muestra la influencia de los pintores impresionistas franceses como Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, influencia que va dejando atrás hasta la inmersión plena en el realismo pictórico, en ocasiones, poético, como han afirmado diversos críticos de su obra: Mario Antolín, Aníbal Núñez, José María Bermejo, José Marín Medina.
La temática de su obra pictórica se centra en personas, seres y objetos de su entorno cotidiano, así como en mundos que, partiendo de la realidad, son creación de la artista.
Artista española consolidada, su obra se ha exhibido en ferias internacionales de arte, en Chicago, Hong Kong, Singapur, París, La Haya, Madrid y en festivales internacionales. La obra de Consuelo Hernández ha recorrido las salas del Instituto Cervantes de Tánger, Rabat, Casablanca, Fez y Tetuán (Marruecos).
En julio de 2012 presentó una selección de pinturas en el marco del Present'Art Festival internacional que se exhibieron en la Biblioteca Nacional de Shanghái Pudong y en el CEIBS. Sus exposiciones internacionales continuaron en 2013 en la Bridge gallery de Pekín y en Shenzhen (China), así como en la GalleryM de Viena (Austria).
Un significativo número de pinturas de Consuelo Hernández ha pasado a formar parte de colecciones privadas e instituciones públicas nacionales e internacionales, de España, Francia, Italia, Shanghái, Beijing, Suiza, New York, etc
