Haydee Raymond
Haydee Raymond is an afro Dominican artist who sells, exhibits, and loves to teach her unique way of painting. She religiously uses recycled materials such as paper, fabric, yarn, etc in her painted and collaged art. The use of found materials is very important for Haydee it not only helps our planet but it also reminds her of her humble beginnings. Her paintings go from realism to abstraction, to graffiti all these elements are found in her work. In her art Haydee creates women with powerful expressive looks on their faces. She depicts women from mythology, history, folklore, Spanish history, biblical history etc. Her passion for art began at an early age. Having immigrated to the United States and settling in the gang filled, violent streets of new York, life was traumatic and hard. living under extreme poverty and having only pencil and paper available , she used these tools to find her voice as well as a way to cope and heal. Her art is expressive and colorful dealing with many human emotions. Her subject of choice is the female face. Exploding with drama, passion, emotion and color. Her colors are vivid clashing with each other. Her art is very personal, in the faces of her ladies she explores her feelings as well as expressing/exploring emotions that may be common to most women. As one gets close to her paintings one may see scratches, pen marks, brocken paper, fabric, tares, drips. These imperfect touches begin to tell a story a narrative of sorts, imperfection, mental stress, wild emotions, and it engages the viewer to look deeper.
