Guillaume-André MORINET was born in Boulogne Billancourt, he lives and works in Clamart (92) where his workshop is located. Attracted by painting very early on, he received a full artistic training at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Art in Paris. He then deepened his research at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris.
Guillaume André MORINET's work is at the crossroads of an experimentation with spontaneous gesture and a questioning of the materiality of the medium. He is interested in the informal and in the dynamics of traces, left by his gestures and by his free paths. His goal is to preserve the appearance of forms that occur during his working sessions. He produces paintings by multiplying the supports so as not to saturate their surface and give more space to his gestures.
His sharp, incisive feature accepts no repentance. What he's looking for is a fair plot that affirms the energy of the moment. A bit like imaginary calligraphy where the full and the fine lines make the surface vibrate.
Each series refers by its motif to an essential stage of his work: Crashes, Dialogues, Altercations, Facts and gestures, Breathing, Compressions…
Each of these steps prompts the painter to experiment with different devices and approaches: painting upside down, cutting to recompose, gluing and superimposing to create transparencies. His preference remains the paper that he can glue, smooth or hang. The fragility of this support allows him to keep a great freedom of composition essential to his work.
The final impression is the result of a confrontation between impetus and the search for balance. Each painting shows the solution that was imposed, and which now, while releasing its energy, produces a new balance.
The complexity of Guillaume André MORINET's paintings draws the viewer's gaze inside the works as in a labyrinth. He takes to the game and lets himself be practiced.
