Griselda Ferrandez, a contemporary Spanish painter, embarked on her artistic journey by studying painting and sculpture at the Massana School of Arts and Crafts in Barcelona. Her body of work, characterized by a realistic style, finds its place within the realms of urban and Pop art.
Over the course of her career, Griselda has delved into diverse materials, each chosen to evoke specific sensations in her paintings. Experimenting with pastel, acrylic, marble dust, oil, organic matter, and collage, she has found a particular affinity for oil, considering it the most noble and versatile medium.
Griselda's realistic painting style is distinctly framed within the aesthetics of Pop art. Her canvases, often utilizing the language of color and advertising principles, create a visual and emotional impact. Her compositions, characterized by close-ups, portray human figures seemingly detached from their surroundings, offering a unique perspective on urban life.
Inspired by cities and the people who inhabit them, Griselda Ferrandez explores the symbiotic relationship between urban landscapes and human behavior. Her works reflect the dynamic interplay between these elements, with cities acting as mirrors of the individuals within them.
In her artistic practice, Griselda employs advertising language, emphasizing the importance of color and framing in her compositions. Collage becomes another tool in her creative arsenal, adding layers of depth to her paintings.
Since her inaugural exhibition in 1978, Griselda's dedication to her craft has remained unwavering. With a period of artistic engagement in Japan and London, where she collaborated with dealers, Griselda's encounter with London served as a wellspring of inspiration, infusing her work with a marked Pop and cosmopolitan aesthetic. This experience transformed her perception of cities, resulting in a compelling body of work.
Griselda Ferrandez's artistic footprint extends beyond national borders, with her paintings showcased in galleries in the United States and various cities across Spain, including Barcelona, Girona, Castellón de la Plana, Sitges, Ibiza, Vigo, Madrid, and Santander.
