The story of one painting
Seraphit-A look from the past
In the 40s of the last century, during excavations in the Mtskheta region (Georgia), a tombstone was found with an inscription in two languages - in Aramaic and Ancient Greek.
The gravestone inscription reported the death of a young woman of a noble family, of amazing beauty. Her life and death are shrouded in complete mystery.
Following this archaeological discovery, this young woman named Seraphit became a source of inspiration for many writers and artists.
When I was creating a picturesque painting — «Seraphite — A Look from the Past», in this mysterious woman I saw the symbol of the eternal woman and the symbol of the primitive mystery hidden in the woman.
On the canvas on the right side, I made an inscription: The top line is taken from the Aramaic inscription on the tombstone. The army inscription begins with the word “I am Seraphit”. I made the rest of the inscription on the canvas in ancient Georgian writing. The essence of the text is the imagination of the author of the picture and reads:
«I am a Seraphite And here I am on the Zikurat And my gaze is eternal from beginning to end.»
