-Closure systems-
Gennaro Corbi encloses the essence of this work in this short aphorism:
"Man always tends, by any means, to conceal the traces of his wickedness.”

"Reflections Through Minimalism: A Journey Within"
Gennaro Corbi describes what he thinks of his art in a text that in some places excites and moves.
“A dear friend once dubbed me a "peddler in front of a wall"; today, after many years, I realize I've replaced that wall with a system of mirrors through which I have the illusion of peering into myself.
In my works, there are no human figures; there is only myself observing what I have seen, not what I see every day. The things I've seen leave traces, meanings, thoughts within me that help me understand that part of myself I'll never fully know. I make use of what, absorbed by my consciousness, becomes my story, my life of which I am merely the director; the lights are never direct but only reflected by the mirror of my memory/consciousness.
The images are blurred, informal because they do not adhere to the geometries of optics; they are sketchy and disrespectful of Cartesian space, which I view very critically, referenced by bands, fields traced to create spaces seemingly uninhabited except by one's own thoughts.
Mine is a simple diary of my eighty years preserved, often indistinctly at the bottom of a drawer accessible only by sensations; I am convinced that everyone has a diary hidden within their soul; I merely attempt, through my works, to provide a pretext for accessing what each person carries within themselves, often unconsciously.
I do not paint for others' eyes but for their intangible emotion as spectators of their own existence.
Stories certainly different from mine but with the infinite richness of lives nevertheless lived that demand respect every day.
In front of my paintings, close your eyes and think of yourselves, look within and you will find, the only true wealth that is your story; only then will my sending out my works make sense; if this does not happen, it means they have no value to others, and then they have only served me.”

Gennaro Corbi was born in 1943 in Naples, where he lives and works. Corbi's paintings and drawings speak of mystery, memory, sometimes of the darker sides of the soul. To better understand his work, it is necessary to overcome its esoteric value and not try to give it a rational interpretation. The unknown figures  he represents are stairs, landscapes, portraits, nudes, spirits, and are inspired by Kafka's literature, or by the themes and motifs of artists such as Chagall and Klimt. In the construction of spaces and chromatic areas, symbols and gestures, Corbi uses gold leaves to enhance mysticism, as sacred painters used them in the Middle Ages. Starting from figures linked to his past, or to episodes that mark or have marked his life, Corbi gives life and freedom to the deepest thoughts and demons of humankind.
