Cette ombre se projette sur un mur clair, légèrement rugueux, qui encadre la scène. Dans ce mur s’ouvre une alcôve simple, creusée dans la pierre ou l’enduit, comme une respiration dans l’architecture. Elle ajoute une profondeur discrète, un jeu d’ombre complémentaire à celui du vase, et confère à l’espace un caractère méditatif.
La lumière est franche, contrastée, presque tranchante : on devine qu’il est encore tôt en fin de journée, à l’heure où le soleil descend mais reste vif, sculptant tout ce qu’il touche. Le jardin suspendu, bien qu’à peine visible, semble baigné d’un silence élégant, minéral.
À l’arrière-plan, au-delà du parapet, la mer Méditerranée s’étale, des îles surgissent à l’horizon — silhouettes pointues, presque irréelles dans la brume de chaleur, comme des éclats de roche flottant entre ciel et eau. Elles donnent à l’ensemble une touche d’infini, d’échappée douce.
L’image respire une esthétique méditerranéenne rare : un mélange de rigueur géométrique, d’ornement discret et de lumière intense. C’est un fragment d’élégance suspendue entre terre, mer et ciel.

Gaspard de Gouges lives and works in the Gard, between Montpellier and Marseille (France). He is a graduate of the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. In the early 2000s, he began to paint large format figurative canvases, group portraits. Since 2021 he has devoted himself to photography, which has become a game for him, a kind of motionless journey.
"I started photographing scenes when I was 10 years old, with very realistic toys and models that I built with stalks of dry grass, miniature vehicles. For a long time I wanted to photograph islands, to their dreamlike power, I love to travel there and their memory persists. Their existence plunges us into an elsewhere. I imagined them tropical, but it is on mineral and Mediterranean islands that I finally decided to evoke. My approach is to create stagings, artificial but plausible, realistic landscapes. I create imaginary worlds, sometimes containing ruins, at least rocks that sometimes make me think of fortresses. These landscapes surprise me and always give me a lot of pleasure to create. "
