Our visit to Fraser - 31 July 2019

My wife Ruhi and I paid a visit to Fraser's Wagon on the Crinan Canal yesterday (one of our many visits over the past twenty years). We first chatted to him across the canal from the towpath back in 1999 and Fraser soon became a good family friend and often joins us in Cowal for family celebrations. Since we first met we have built a collection of five of his original artworks and one large print.

Fraser lives 'off grid' in a 100 year old showman's wagon in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland - the banks of the Crinan Canal in mid Argyll. The canal is a busy waterway for yachts nowadays but was originally built to carry small cargo vessels reducing the journey from Glasgow to the outer isles by around 100 miles. The canal was opened in 1801 and has 15 locks and 7 bridges.

Fraser's hospitality is famous and we encourage you to pay him a visit when in the area. To find Fraser, drive along the Crinan Canal from Lochgilphead via Cairnbaan to Crinan Basin and walk along the towpath for half a mile. His wagon is situated on the opposite side of the canal not far after Crinan Bridge. A sign on the towpath marks his location. If he doesn't see you give him a shout and he will point you in the right direction to visit the Wagon Art Studio or he may even jump in and swim over to speak to you! I have attached some photos below of the canal and his home - The Wagon Art Studio.

Please support our friend by purchasing his artwork either as originals or prints.
