Francisco Landazábal was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia in 1969. He grew up in Cartagena, a stronghold of Spanish colonization, famous worldwide for its historical wealth and natural beauty. In that place full of magic, where the tropics express all its strength and contradiction, he spent his childhood, right in front of the sea. The noise of the local people and the lush colors of the Caribbean were the backdrop to his amazing imagination from his earliest childhood. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Cartagena and then went through the workshop of a French artist based in the city.
His subsequent studies in philosophy and the rational component of the aesthetic phenomenon gave him a much greater conviction to see art as a serious and structured profession; where his respect for a purist technique and the viewer's expectations became the philosophical foundations of his work.
Francisco is involved in a metaphysical investigation into time and space based on the intuitions of the genius German philosopher Gotfried Wilhelm Leibniz, whom he considers one of the most brilliant minds in history. Space and time are relational dimensions that frame our perceptions but are not true reality. Francisco realized that art and artists hold the key to overcoming time and perceiving space in such different ways that art can truly save the world from meaninglessness. His current artwork combined with this philosophical research is an exploration of cosmology, nature and human consciousness.
Landazábal has been well received in the national and international context for his direct technique, with a deep knowledge of color and expression through broad and deep strokes, now enhanced with his new perceptions of space. Art must be something capable of joining our lives and remaining in our daily habitat; He does not consider that art should be a matter of ephemeral trash that, outside the context of the exhibition hall, is usually nothing; or momentary feelings that beyond the context or history, lose all their content. Art must seek eternity, that is, the absence of time in a joyful relationship with the image, or sound or whatever it may be the expressive form of the artist.
