The multimedia visual artist Ewen Macaulay was born in 1973 in Folkestone, Kent, to parents Ron and Betty, who were both well travelled parents. Living in America and Canada in the early 1960’s. Both filling Ewen’s mind with visual descriptions and stories of New York, San Francisco, Vancouver, the Pacific Islands and beyond.
Ewen’s dad was particularly creative, carving and wood turning stunning pieces of art and model making acurate scaled wooden sailing ships. All this gave Ewen exposure to a plethora of creativity and vision. These skills helped nurture Ewen’s natural artistic talents and opening his mind to experimenting with many different mediums and the world beyond.

Ewen enjoyed a very successful career as a Graphic Designer, studying at Art Colleges like The London College of Printing and the University of Greenwich. Eventually becoming a Studio Director for a very successful and respected Design Agency, a career which spanned over 20 years. However, it wasn’t until Ewen was in his late 30’s that he decide to pursue his real passion, a career as a professional artist.

The oeuvre of Ewen’s skills include such mediums like, screen printing, photography, acrylics, pen and ink, water colours, digital drawing and the use of clear casting resin. He is well known for his large landscape paintings and drawings of cities. But also, his love and passion for the environment and wildlife are often referenced with stunning wildlife art. He also utilises many found materials into his works.
An avid explorer of colour and light, Ewen wields loose brush strokes, full of movement, adding to the uniqueness of each piece. He is a fast worker, quickly covering a canvas with energetic brush strokes, this expressive and impressionistic style creates direct dialogue through the viewers gaze.

Ewen’s painting has taken him on a great journey thus far, having multiple exhibitions and collaborations, selling throughout the U.K, Europe the USA. and Asia. Ewen has found painting challenging, but immensely rewarding and he continues to paint and create from his studio on the Kent coast.
