ABOUT THIS WORK
ささやき [sasayaki] is a series of twelve photographs.
During my trip to Japan in the spring of 2023, I visited Kenroku-en Park in Kanazawa on the night of May 4th to 5th. Under the full moon, I was immersed in a symphony of natural elements. The ancient trees, the lakes that had witnessed dynasties, and the radiant moon gave me the sensation of standing on the stage of a Noh theater.
The energy I felt that night was so strong, so radiant, so profound that nature’s beauty seemed heightened, revealing its evident harmony with the cosmos. It felt as if all this beauty was in perpetual motion, engaged in a wondrous and supernatural dance.
A few hours later, on May 5, 2023, at 2:42 PM, while traveling by bus to Suzu, at the northern tip of the Noto Peninsula, we were suddenly forced to stop. A violent earthquake of magnitude 6.5 struck, followed by numerous aftershocks that lasted for 24 hours.
It was then that I realized I had captured, in Kenroku-en Park that very night, the whisper of an impending earthquake.
I decided to name this photographic series ささやき (sasayaki), meaning “whispers.”
By chance—or rather, through the synchronicity of events, or an order beyond our understanding—two photographs from this series were later exhibited at Galerie Ville A des Arts in Paris in October 2023, in collaboration with the CNFAP of UNESCO.
The name of the exhibition? “MURMURES” (Whispers).

Éric Petr is an artist photographer for whom light is a symbol of life, and time, its eternal renewal. When he captures the light to write his presence there in negative, the secrets of the material it contains tell celestial stories.
His photography is a dialogue between the sky and man. It is a reflection on the essence of light. It is a variation on Werner Heisenberg's “uncertainty relations” which questions whether the observation theory of the universe would impose certain limits on our perception of reality. It shows the fragility and beauty of life.
