Enzo Esposito was born in Benevento in 1946, he has lived and worked in Milan for more than twenty years.
A leading name in the artistic panorama of the 80s, Esposito he participated in all the reviews of that period which pointed out the transition from "conceptual" to "painting".
In fact, after a phase of maturation in a climate of conceptual art and formal rigor, he is one of the first artists to intuit, at the end of the 70s, the return to painting through the "environments". The first installations date back to 1977, paintings executed directly on the walls of the galleries, where the grandeur of color creates strong emotional involvement.
In those years his work was noticed by Renato Barilli who included Esposito in the group of "Nuovi Nuovi", in the "aniconic" side, with which he will participate in numerous group exhibitions in the most important international museums in the 1980s. The following period is marked by an abstract expressionism made up of bright luminosities and ever wider and more rampant backgrounds. The almost always monumental dimensions of his works serve the artist to underline the objective value of painting as a demanding and all-encompassing experience, both for those who create it and for those who observe it. “My non-narrative work is a dialogue with the surface, a painting event. There are no icons. There are no titles. Giving a title is giving a margin and I don't want margins..” (E. Esposito. Lisa Licitra Ponti. Domus n.653, 1984).
