We shift and bedeck and bedrape us, Thou art noble and nude and antique.
– Algernon Charles Swinburne
Male nudity was celebrated in ancient Greece to a greater degree than any culture before or since. They considered embarrassment at having to disrobe for sports a sign of barbarism. The status of freedom, maleness, privilege, and physical virtues were asserted by discarding everyday clothing for athletic nudity. With the association of the naked body with the beauty and power of the gods, nudity became a ritual costume.
Inspired by the beauty of the male body.
