KOOLtura is a micture of two words: "Kool" is cool, while "tura" is from the word "kultura", which means "culture."

Each country has its own unique culture, for this painting, the artist would like to emphasize on the artistic culture of the "Pabalat" by the Bulakeños. "Pabalat" is a traditional art orginated from the town of San Miguel, Bulacan in the Philippines; using colored Japanese papers, artists first draws the pattern into the paper before cutting it out. Pabalat is currently a dying-art as only a few people in San Miguel do this.

In the painting, the artist depicts two individuals reviving Pabalat in a modern way. There are 4 Pabalat patterns in the painting, each depicting a part of the Filipino culture of the three major islands of the Philippines: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The solid colored lines represents transition of the time and culture throughout the centuries.
