Walter Sené
Walter Sené, a contemporary French artist, is a versatile creative force, excelling as a graphic designer, painter, and sculptor. Inspired by Free Figuration, Walter embarked on his artistic journey in the late 1980s, initially creating expansive outdoor frescoes in industrial settings, alongside participating in gallery exhibitions and artistic events. His ingenuity knows no bounds, as he fearlessly explores various materials, surfaces, and environments to craft a deeply personal and liberating artistic expression, free from constraints.
In the past decade, Walter has dedicated much of his time to painting whimsical characters that evoke nostalgia for his teenage years and his passion for comics. Rendered in acrylic paint, his endearing heroes exude a childlike charm, serving as "self-portraits" that reflect his innermost feelings, emotions, and sensations. Framed in white against vibrant backgrounds, these characters stand out like polaroids, capturing the essence of Walter's playful imagination.
Walter's art is characterized by its immediate and spontaneous expression, brimming with life, energy, and passion. He infuses his works with humorous slogans, scriptures, and words, inviting viewers to share in his unique perspective on the world and society. Through his art, Walter conveys a blend of humor, sweetness, and subtle critique, stimulating the imagination and sparking contemplation.
In addition to his paintings, Walter also creates sculptures, or "totems," inspired by Primitive Art. These ritualistic statues are crafted from various objects and materials, meticulously assembled to evoke a sense of tradition and modernity in a lighthearted and engaging manner.
In essence, Walter Sené seamlessly blends tradition and modernity, infusing his art with wit, charm, and a refreshing sense of playfulness that captivates audiences and transcends boundaries.

« Oh my God. Yellow, red, blue, green, colors everywhere, colors all over, it doesn’t matter, that’s know I like it… »
Walter is a graphic designer, a painter and a geniune creative artist. Inspired by Free Figuration, he started painting at the end of the 1980s. His first works consisted in large outdoors frescoes in industrial areas, settings for artistic events and gallery exhibitions. Walter is used to making the most of all kinds of materials, surfaces and environments and that’s how he has given birth to a free and higly personal expresion, deprived of any constraints.
Those last ten years though, he has spent most of his time painting funny little characters, using acrylic painting. His heroes come from his teenage years and his love for comics. They are designed in a childlike and yet culting way. He calls them « self portraits, reflecting his feelings, his emotions and sensations ». These unusual heroes stand out on the canvas, framed in white, as if the painting had been turned into a polaroid.
Walter’s art is based on immediate and spontaneous expression. It’s full of life and energy, of impulses and passions. These straightforward images are reinforced by the funny slogans, scriptures, words that he ads on the painting. That’s how he shares with the audience his point of view on our world, our society. He conveys a humoristic, sweet and nevertheless critical message that tackles our imagination.
As for his sculptures, or his totems as he calls them, they are true ritual statues, inspired by Primitive Art, made of various objects and materials assembled together.
In a nutshell, Walter mixes up traditions and modernity in a light and fun way.
