My name is Tracie Sperling. I am 27 years old and live in Falls Church, VA. I graduated from Marymount University with a B.A in Liberal Studies with concentrations in Fashion Design and Business Administration. I have a background in art as well. Through networking, I have been told I could incorporate my art as actual fabric designs.

As far as my background, I have been artistically inclined since seven years old. My Mom would hang up my drawings on the refrigerator with pride and call me her “ picassoette” because I started developing an abstract style at a young age and my art work was always different compared to others. In college, I started painting working with mixed media of acrylic paint, sharpie oil paint and even makeup. I have a couple of past exhibitions where I was selected by a panel of judges for the annual Marymount art show to have my own display twice in a row.

Creativity is key to success, even though it is often turned down. People are afraid to be different due to criticism, but we are born with a unique set of qualities. I personally believe everyone is born with natural, God-given talents, but not all have access. Natural talent is admired, but working hard to achieve a certain skill is more appreciated. As song writer, Lady Gaga indicates, each individual is “born a certain way with a purpose in life”. “There is nothing wrong with living who you are because god made you perfect”(Born This Way, 2011). This brings me to another concept. Imperfections are acceptable. Not everyone is perfect and you don’t necessarily have to look like someone off the cover of a magazine…even though that is seen as ideal. Women come in all shapes and sizes. In art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
