Stephen Williams is a contemporary New Zealand sculptor. Tension and balance of contrasting shapes play a major role in his sculptures. He explores the aesthetic beauty of shapes found in biology and the human form and juxtaposes these with designs found in manufactured products. In doing so, the artist strives to disrupt the symmetry and predictability of these forms, while preserving the integrity of the sculpture.

In addition to creating solid glass sculptures, Williams finds great pleasure in crafting hollow pieces. By working with hollow glass, he adds an extra dimension to his art, allowing the interior of the sculpture to become a prominent element. While he still appreciates working with bronze, he finds glass particularly captivating due to its vast range of colors, as well as the interplay of light and the inherent transparency of the material.
