Simon Ispak, born Simon Louail, is a young French artist who lives and works in Berlin since 2017.
Screen printer and letter painter by training, he turns very young to the graffiti practice and quickly earns his stripes in this field. After graduating with an art and design degree, Simon settles in Paris for nine years where he works as a graphic designer for the main Parisian transport agency. Always keen to learn and discover more, he likes to spend his spare time attending exhibitions or devouring art books. Little by little, he transposes his paintings from the streets to the canvas.
Jackson Pollock’s universe and the “Action Painting” movement fascinate him. Developing his technique, he mixes his graphic skills with the dripping method. Through typographic research works, he defines his unique style with thick typography and colorful drippings.
Simon paints mirrored words to show that the text meaning is not the priority in his art. Mixing acrylic, ink and spray, he likes to diversify textures. Every three years, Simon paints his self-portrait and seeks to show his own vision of himself in that instant.
Since he moved to that city, Simon found himself very inspired by Berlin, its architecture, culture and history. He transposes his
emotions on wide canvas or other materials he collects on the street. As a result, Simon delivers a raw and abstract visual art, yet full of tech- niques acquired through the years as a screen printer.
After being exhibited several times in Paris, Simon would like to intro- duce his new work to galleries and convey his values and unique artistic identity.
