Rod Stribley is an English artist who changed his life in 1995, after his first exhibition in Paris which was a great success. In less than two weeks, the 30 liner watercolors were sold. Inspired by his work on the GGM archives in Le Havre, he restores subtle colors to the black and white photos he has. He interprets with modernity and sensitivity the transatlantic atmosphere and the lifestyle of a time when luxury, pleasure and opulence reigned over the seas.
Then a renowned graphic designer living in Paris since 1983, Rod decides to embark on a career as an artist with watercolors, then a few oil paintings and finally only in acrylic. To date he has made more than 370 paintings.
In 2000, he moved to the Ile de Ré to fully live his life as an artist and opened his palette to sailboats, regattas and other beachside scenes. He gave his daughter and son-in-law his first Class J triptych “The Ryde Regatta” for their wedding, which made him want to work on multiple panels. From this period will be born the series of sailors, including the "Sailors at the Maneuver", a quadriptych and one of his most famous paintings. At the end of 2017 he publishes a catalog of his latest paintings and those sold that he prefers. He is a color magician, a great dreamer, who always needs muses from the present or the past to move forward and produce his canvases in subtle and refined hues.
