The artist behind the business of art

Ritzi. A brand that is becoming synonymous with outstanding, unique, and exclusive modern abstract art for both personal and corporate spaces. And, like most successful entrepreneurial businesses, Ritzi has a personality behind it.
Rina is that personality. The brains and the passion behind Ritzi. Growing up in Kroonstad, in the Free State, Rina was always creative, from simple drawings to fashion, candles, and make-up. Painting was a medium she didn’t get into though, and her creative passion was put on hold for a number of years. After studying, Rina became an accountant. Yes! An accountant! Not a common career choice for a creative soul but it appealed to Rina’s organised mind, her enjoyment of working with people and a love for numbers. Still, Rina says:
I was deeply frustrated. I worked for 25 years in the corporate world as an accountant, and there was very little time to satisfy the need to be creative. Eventually, at the age of 45 (yes I know, the famous midlife crisis!), I realised that I could no longer suppress the urge to create. I started attending art classes and was so excited each day that I couldn’t sleep. A whole new world opened up for me.
Now, though, that artistic talent, passion and creativity has blended seamlessly with the structured business mind of the accountant to allow Rina to develop Ritzi. Her artwork is personal, emotional, distinctive, evocative and unique but it is driven by the need to create something for a client where they have input into the process.
The enjoyment that Rina gets from collaboration with clients has also driven her to provide a sustainable income platform and stable infrastructure for other creatives, in order to make original art. The business provides artwork for sale or rent in a variety of venues from high-end homes to corporate headquarters and any space in between.
Rina is an adventurous soul and her love of the outdoors, snorkeling, sky diving, zip lining and quad biking provide her with inspiration, energy and motivation. The light and movement in the sea water; the colours and textures of the earth; the skidding summer clouds on a bright blue African sky; and the vibrant reds and pinks of a sunset will find their way onto canvas or glass in some form or another to provide the warmth and passion a space needs to make it personal.

South African Ndebele culture art, with its geometric patterns and bright colours is the inspiration[...]
South African Ndebele culture art, with its geometric patterns and bright colours is the inspiration for this body of work. The collage consists of various small artworks, each 12” x 12” in size and individually priced. Each piece represents three different elements of an Ndebele home. Some of the pieces have thatched roofs, as well as doors and windows. Others represent only a wall and then some are small rondavels (thatched, round huts with mud walls).
About the artist’s work:
Always looking for interesting, novel ways to portray her environment, Rina uses a variety of media to create depth and texture in her work. Beads are traditional African decorative items and provide a smooth three-dimensional effect. Crochet work is another tradition, handed down from generation to generation and often evokes memories when touched and viewed. Simple, reflective, and highly evocative, especially for those who have lived or visited Africa.
About the Ndebele Tribes in South Africa:
The culture of the Ndebele people is unique. Historically, each family used a single rondavel for daily activities such as cooking and sleeping. Nowadays, the rondavel is used for traditional ceremonies and as families have grown, square houses have been built alongside for cooking and sleeping.
