Thank you for visiting my art gallery. My name is Pierre, I am an artist, graphic designer, illustrator and photographer. Aardvark art gallery has been established to showcase my work. The gallery also represents and exhibits local Australian and International artists.
I am what you would call a visual thinker, a multi-dimensional artist. As you will see I work in a diverse range of subjects and media. My goal is to create evocative memorable imagery through the use of playful organic forms. I like to "take the line for a walk", as Paul Klee used to say. Serendipity is an important element of my work. This helps give my images a quirky child like character.
I fell in love with painting as a child. My love blossomed in College where I finished in the top ten students in Australia. My art studies continued after college. I attended the Canberra College of Art, studying Certificate of Painting. I also had a great interest in the Applied Arts, and have gained a Diploma of Graphic Design from the Canberra Institute of Technology. Studying both the fine arts and applied arts has given me good foundations to build on.
I was born in Australia and have traveled extensively throughout the world. Through my travels I have grown to love nature and music. These are the two key influences upon my artistic life. I am sure a lot of artists can relate to that. The early years of my career were focused almost entirely on black and white tonal drawings in various media, such as pencil, charcoal, pastel etc. I did a lot of tonal drawing in a hyper-realist style. More recently I have gradually abandoned figurative and narrative motifs in favor of a more uninhibited spontaneous abstract style.
I have spent many years studying and researching color. I have been seduced by color. Color and abstraction have become the key elements of my work. My most recent projects are involved with the synthesis of painting and music, Jazz music in particular.I visualize music as colors, and through the music I transfer those colors to the canvas.
Teaching art to children is a great inspiration for me. Artists can learn so much from children. Art history fascinates me as well and I write about it whenever I get the opportunity. Most of all I love to paint, I am very passionate about my painting, to the point where I have sacrificed entering numerous exhibitions and competitions, it just wasn’t important to me. In recent years I have struck a balance between creative output and exhibiting. My exhibitions have received critical acclaim, but the most important thing for me is that I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people who have inspired and supported me. As for the future, I want to keep exploring and pushing the boundaries, to continually make my work challenging, fresh and inventive.
