This work is painted in a round shape which evokes a "dream catcher". We see Iktomi, a prankster spirit who has the appearance of a spider, but who can also take any form including that of a human. The white, yellow, red and black around the edges signify the four cycles of life, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and wisdom. We also see the path of the sun from east to west.
- Legend of the "dream catcher"
In ancient times, animals spoke to men, an old woman lived alone in her tepee, well not entirely alone since Iktomi the spider had woven a magnificent web at its top. The old woman had a very special relationship with Iktomi, the latter taught her the cycles of life and our duty to guide the youngest. Throughout our existence, we must make choices, follow sometimes difficult paths. Our dreams and visions can help us make the right decisions, the right paths, those that lead us towards harmony.
To thank her, Iktomi weaved his web in a wooden circle made from a willow branch. He explained that this object had a very special power, that of filtering our dreams. He thus offered the old lady a dream catcher. By hanging it above the sleeper, good dreams will pass through the center hole and find their way to the sleeper by sliding along the feathers that connect us to the spirit world. All the bad dreams will be trapped in the web and burned in the rising sun by the first light of day.

Jean-Luc OSSWALD was born in Strasbourg, in 1950. He lives and works in the suburbs of Paris. Very early, he felt the need to express himself through drawing and painting.
Encouraged by his Art professor and supported by his family, he takes off on an artistic path in Paris. He is accepted at the competitive entrance examination of the Collège Art et Dessin and later at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art. After graduating, he goes to Canada where he does some traveling. Upon his return to France, in 1972, he starts working for Draeger, an art editing publisher. He works on books about famous artists such as: Braque, Chagall, Dali, Fuchs, Magritte, Picasso...
Illustrator, chief of the art studio, artistic director, he works passionately, for nearly 30 years, as a graphic designer in advertising, a world dedicated to the cult of image and sign. His creativity leads him to experiment with digital imaging and editing while heading a team of graphic designers.
In 1999, he feels the need to widen his creative field and turns naturally to painting. Since the beginning of this adventure, he exhibits in numerous art galleries in France and abroad. His pictural work has received several awards.
He became a member of the Taylor Foundation in Paris in 2003 and in January 2005, he signs the manifest Un art pour l’Homme.
He teaches painting at a Plastic Arts Studio.
A permanent exhibition of his work can be seen in a Parisian area Art Gallery.
Today he is in search of his work’s echo... in France and abroad.
