Ningura Napurrula (c1938 -2013) is one of the most prominent female painters of the contemporary generation of Aboriginal Australian artists. She was part of the Kintore/Haasts Bluff women's painting project in 1995, where she began to make her abstract paintings on canvas. Her signature motif is a black-and-white line pattern with occasional accents in bright colors - it carries a symbolic meaning derived from her ancestral mythology. In 2002 Napurrula's growing national prominence was reaffirmed when her work was featured on an Australian postage stamp.

Her work is also featured on the ceiling in the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris. The impressive artistic designs of artist Ningura Napurrula were beautifully realised at the Musée du quai Branly in Paris, when the artist's work was incorporated into the surface decoration of the building. Seen from ground level, the black and white contours of the artwork dance over the form of the building.

Ningura Napurrula is strongly connected to the Papunya school of painters. She was married to famous artist and elder Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi. Since 1995 Ningura Napurrula established her own reputation as a painter, and today is represented in major national collections including National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of NSW, and Art Gallery of Northern Territory.

Ningura Napurrula depicts the mythological events of her ancestors Her paintings focus on the travels of the female Ancestor, the sacred sites she created on her journey and the mythological significance of bush tucker collected along the way. In the Creation era, the old woman Kutunga Napanangka passed through this country as she travelled east. She passed through numerous sites on the way before arriving at the permanent site of Muruntji, south west of Mt Liebig. These travels and rituals remain at the core of the customs and ceremonial lives of Pintupi women today.
