DESCRIPTION OF THE PAINTING
The painting entitled “June 1945. Pilots of the Normandie-Niemen Squadron return to France on board Yak-3 Fighters Presented by the Soviet Government.”
Author: NARYKOV, Vladimir Yuryevich
Year: 2020
Size: 95.6 х 150.7 cm
Material: canvas, oil.

The painting depicts a true historical event, the return of pilots of the legendary Normandie-Niemen Squadron to their home country, France.
It belongs to the Aviation Art style and is based on the classic multi-layer painting technique. The Yak-3 aircraft are drawn from life, using a large-scale mockup.
The painting features 21 aircraft.
The aircraft livery reflects the last stage of their flight following a three-day overlay in Stuttgart, where red stars and Charles de Gaulle's Fighting France emblem, the Cross of Lorraine, where painted on fins.
The plane of Squadron Commander Louis Delfino, carrying the distinctive emblem of double rings instead of the tail number, is the centerpiece of the composition. There are seven crosses beneath the double rings on the fuselage commemorating seven victories.
The plane of first ace of the Normandie-Niemen Squadron, Hero of the Soviet Union
Marcel Albert (tail number 6, 23 victories) is painted a little lower, to the left.
Planes of Hero of the Soviet Union, Marquis Roland de la Poype (tail number 24, 16 victories) and Robert Iribarne (tail number 7, 7 victories) are depicted in the middle of the left side of the canvas.
The plane of Hero of the Soviet Union Jacques Andre (tail number 44, 15 victories) is on the right, slightly above the plane of the Squadron commander.
Beneath there are planes of Robert Marchi (tail number 4, 14 victories) and Roger Sauvage (tail number 5, 14 victories) from the Squadron’s Top 5 pilots.
The faces of Louis Delfino, Marcel Albert and Jacques Andre bear a portrait resemblance.
The Squadron is flying above clouds; there are patches of land beneath, and the peaceful blue sky above. The face of Squadron Commander Louis Delfino is lit with a smile: soon enough they will land in Paris, at the Le Bourget airfield.
The painting is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Normandie-Niemen Squadron’s return to France and the French pilots, who heroically fought the Nazis together with Soviet soldiers of the Red Army.

I was born in 1981.

I have two university degrees, the second – in art.

I served in the Airborne Forces.

At the moment, I am engaged in artistic and creative activity. The direction of my art is realism. I do paintings in many genres - from still-life to ceremonial portrait, but I'm especially attracted to machinery (tanks, military aircrafts, sports cars and motorcycles). The machinery in my paintings is drawn almost from nature - by scale replica models. I actively participate in regional and interregional exhibitions. My works are found in museums as well as in private collections.
