Antonio Murgia
Antonio Murgia was born in Sardinia in 1956.
He is mainly known for his artistic collection named ‘Pretaporter’ in which Marilyn Monroe
(the international cover diva) and Daisy Duck (the eternal faithful girlfriend) both in turns
wear the international contemporary fashion clothes (Versace, Armani, D&G, Chanel etc)
in what can be defined as a clash and a meet-up of erotic aggression and bewitching
looks, contrasts among colours and black and white, prominence and concealed, reality
and fantasy.
Thanks to his masterly painting, this artist stands out for his ironic vision yet sagacious,
often deep both on reality and the artistic material.
This painting series is continuously evolving and exhibiting mainly between China and
Italy.
-OROS project:
Being a versatile and dynamic artist he has recently developed a new collection called
‘OROS Project’. It aims at dealing with opposites and synonyms of order and chaos,
abstract and figurative, feminine and masculine. The painted faces are separated
structures composed of abstract paintings. They are not consequential and deliberately
disagree with one another but then magically all together find a melting point.
This is to remind us of all the different discordant partners within ourselves and as it
often happens (and we wish it happened more frequently) they correspond to our
partners , relatives, friends, all the different relationships and ultimately the whole
mankind.
-Juxtaposition:
When you want to combine abstract and figurative, you can start by deconstructing form until its dissolution or viceversa. You can stop whenever you wish at any intermediate level. More interaction ways are obviouslypossible. What belongs basically to this line of expression is based on overlapping (usually forcibly) both souls, with no need for a mandatory link, either emotional or programmatic. You simply combine two needs, and stand before a window and look.

Matteo Micello, Art critic.
The art of Antonio Murgia takes inspiration from Pop. In the Pop Art language, objects and shapes of daily life are emphasized because they are isolated and separated from their original context. And yet Murgia, in this process, channels romantic expressive intensiveness to his works. Face prevails in the composition space. The face only, concentrated on the scene against a backdrop with no natural landscapes as a reference, emphasizes even more the dynamic of representation so that the face itself becomes the expression of a detail. The matter is moving, the vibrant brush stroke and the colour prevail with all of their sensual and frantic power.
The multiple colours seem to speak, act, record the tones of emotions to become supporters of a private and deep expressiveness. With the engaging harmony he creates between colours and expression, the artist gives overwhelming humanity to the faces. Through great colour bounces and softened shades, the faces are part of ascene reminiscent of the subconscious. The look is dominated by the firmness of the eyes that become languid and seem to project themselves into another dimension, towards an absolutely inner universe. The faces are full of an intense emotivity, which results in high drama that liberatesthe interior side. In the works by Antonio Murgia, the colour annihilates the conscious personality of its shapes, resulting in the prevalence of subconscious personality made of feelings and thoughts. Every face expressesa precise emotional identity. It is the individual that belongs to the crowd and the artist makes escape from his own context to meet him in an inner state, moving from the world of the spirit to the world of art.
