"Notre Dame de Bonne Nouvelle" Painting by Mata

Mata is a multidisciplinary artist. She abandoned classic canvases for some time to try her hand at 3D painting. She paints directly on the body of her models by integrating them into a story, the body becomes the reflection of this story, integrates into the canvas to better tell itself. This artist, always in search of new experiences and sensations, produces work that comes from her imagination, cradled in her multi-cultural roots, drawn during her travels, imbued with her deep humanity.
The ambiguity between image and reality, between true and false, is the essence of his work. Through these "painting-performance" sessions, she creates her own interpretation of reality. She also plays with the whole palette of painting. She uses large flat areas of different colors, in a style inspired by fauvism or expressionism. The visual artist also improvises the sets. She chooses whether or not to paint the walls, the floor, the chair... then takes a picture of everything. This shot is the final work.

She applies acrylic paint to her models, objects and walls in broad brushstrokes that mimic the look of work in classical painting. His approach to portraiture includes the faces and bodies of his models, by making additional shadows. When the three dimensions of the tableau vivant are captured by photography, which is two-dimensional, it seems to be a painting. The effect looks so convincing that one does not realize that the photo is not of a painting, but of a real life scene.
