Mary Ellen Rosenbluth-Mendes (1931-88) has left a legacy of remarkable creativity. Growing up in an artistically vibrant home in New York, where guests might include the songwriter Richard Rodgers or the playwright Claire Boothe Luce, Mary Ellen gained an early exposure to art from her mother and physician father -- both talented artists. She would go on to develop her own artistic path, studying under Julian Levi, Leo Manso, and other influential instructors at the Art Students League in New York City. She was also, no doubt, influenced by the dynamic artistic scene in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where she spent many summers. Ms. Rosenbluth-Mendes's works encompass an array of techniques, including oils, watercolors, charcoal, and sculpture, and her style spans the worlds of post-impressionism through early modernism. Her works are not simply a technical exercise. In them, she captures the humanity of people and the beauty of places she observed. We hope you will find pleasure in viewing them.
