A graduate of both Ecole des Beaux-Arts and Metiers d'Arts of Paris, Martine Lafont launches her career realizing monumental murals for theatre plays and public architecture projects before pursuing her interests in stage and exhibition design, events and visual communication. Today, she devotes herself entirely to her first passion: painting.
After a childhood in France, Martine Lafont spent a few years in Iran and in Argentina where she immersed herself in new influences. Of those days, she has kept a strong attraction for the unknown and for diversity, always present in her work.
She draws simple and raw emotions, without the explicit presence of characters. The strength of her paintings is in leaving men and women off the frame, protecting their intimacy - their fleeting presence is only suggested.
The absence of the subject is reflected in her series of beds: where are the sleepers of these unmade beds ? She paints the "angels’ share", the evaporated but condensed life, in which only the shadow of our gestures and escapes are captured inside the frame.
Elusiveness is central to her current work, when she gazes out of the window of a train as its speed whirls the world away. For sure, the subject has no time to strike a pose and an easel is useless here : 320 km/hour is the space-time that Martine Lafont needs to grasp the unique layouts that you will never see again, simply because they will never come back.
She mixes oils and acrylics and kneads the colors into a clever pulp with the highest regards for graphical art.
