Marina Clemente is a contemporary painter based in France. Text plays a crucial role in her artistic endeavors, encompassing randomly heard, seen, or memorized quotes, film dialogues, songs, or advertisements, along with phrases that permeate her everyday life. The appeal lies in the eccentric expressions, intriguing words, and the inherent incompleteness of these texts. Enchanting words and phrases dance in her mind, and in their wake, face paintings come to life. What unites all these portraits is the theme of androgyny. Sometimes, the faces of her androgynous subjects appear distorted or intentionally unfinished, with certain features obscured by expressive and intense brushstrokes, as if the artwork itself resists releasing its breath.
