Margot Schaefer was born in Erkrath (Germany) on October 21 1954. As a young teenager she already was very interested in Art (or art?), which resulted in studies in decoration. On the Düsseldorfer Academy she followed lessons from Joseph Beuys.
After coming to Belgium she started designing and creating her own fabrics. She worked with Brigitte Manguin (Brussels) and Lieve Van Gorp and Ann Heylen from the Fashion academy in Antwerp. When due to health reasons she had to give up her weaving production, she started developing her painting, an activity she always continued, although often designing fabrics.
In her painting she created her own style, using techniques from the Australian aboriginals, known as "dot-painting". She develops her own Western inspired use of this technique.
This website gives the possibility for a first acquaintance with her work. Still it is only a first acquaintance, as a painting from 100 x 160 cm will always lack the strength of the original painting on a computer screen.
She also organizes workshops "dot-painting" and intuitive painting for novices as well as experts.
Enjoy the site.
