Oil on canvas, 40 cm x 50 cm. January 2014.
I painted my first canvas in blue and white, from a plaster cast of a beautiful Oriental girl holding a poppy flower.
Opium is a thick juice extracted from the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum). Chewing opium induces euphoria, followed by a dream-filled sleep; habitual use leads to dependence and physical and mental deterioration.
The poppy is associated with false passion, dreams, fertility and resurrection.
