Il concorso nazionale aperto anche agli internazionali dei Madonnari, si svolge ogni anno il 14/15 Agosto da 34 anni. Soltanto a Grazie di Curtatone-MN; davanti al santuario Mariano della SS.Madonna della Grazie, sede storica dei Madonnari con relativo museo,si può accedere alla categoria Maestri Madonnari. Questo titolo è riconosciuto a livello Mondiale. Quindi l'affluenza di Artisti stranieri e elevata. Il gruppo più sostenuto sono i californiani di cui siamo gemellati da circa un ventennio.Quindi, chi volesse iniziare deve soltanto fare l'iscrizione dal 13 Agosto alle 1500 fino ad esaurimento piazzole. Le piazzole sono circa 180, e la metà è già riservata ai vari gruppi storici e artisti stranieri. Le corsie si dividono tra Maestri Madonnari,Qualificati e Semplici.
L'iscrizione è di circa 5 euro,portare un bozzetto di quello che si intende disegnare,codice fiscale e fotocopia dei un documento identità. Esistono piazzole per campeggio dedicate ai Madonnari e parcheggio Camper . Per le auto, i Madonnari pagano soltanto una volta e possono uscire ed entrare liberamente nelle 24h di gara.All'atto d'iscrizione verrà consegnata documentazione relativa al numero d'iscritto con adesivo per i dati anagrafici e la categoria d'appartenenza, tagliando numerato che serve ad identificare il concorrente, per il parcheggio e per il rimborso pranzo.
La gara inizia all'incirca intorno alle 1800 del 14 ( si lavora tutta la notte sotto i riflettori),per terminare alla stessa del 15, alle ore 1900 premiazione dei vincitori di tutte le categorie, compreso il Maestro Madonnaro vincitore del trofeo Madonnari.Quest'ultimo avrà l'onere di eseguire la locandina dell'anno successivo. In caso di pioggia (SOB!), se prima di inizare, la manifestazione viene rimandata il giorno successivo, ma se piove durante l'esecuzione...in qualche modo bisogna finire le opere.
Alla fine esiste un compenso per ogni categoria e valutato in base al lavoro svolto, sia in quantità che in qualità. Non sono ammessi gli spolveri, lacche da dare sui lavori,acrilici,insomma non si possono usare pennelli bagnati solamente a secco , come la tradizione vuole. Questo, ogni anno è tema di pareri discordanti fra le varie fazioni dei Madonnari. Ogni piazzola è di circa cm.300xcm.250 per madonnaro,si può prendere anche lo spazio doppio, ma con relativa documentazione attestante l'opera da farsi. I Madonnari Semplici possono farsi aiutare da altri,tipo gruppo, ma alla fine deve risultare un titolare ed eventualmente unico vincitore del gruppo,raramente vincono anche gli altri.
Le vincite delle tre categorie in linea di massima sono:
1°-2°-3° Cat Semplice - Il 1° passa di diritto a Qualificato (se l'elevata qualità delle opere è tale posso passare tutti e tre-caso raro);
1°-2°-3° Cat Qualificato-Il 1° passa Maestro Madonnaro - Trofeo Grazie per un anno ( anche qui come sopra)
1° Cat. Maestri - Gran Premio delle Grazie e onere della Locandina tipo palio.
Poi ci sono premi spaeciali del Santuario etc. anche qui con possibilità di passaggio di cat.

Quest'anno per me è il nono..e sono ancora Semplice con due Menzioni Speciali, Luigi "Caravaggio" è venuto com me l'ultima edizione, ed era la sua prima volta che lavorava su asfalto, ha preso la menzione speciale per il bacio di giuda del merisi.
